human centered design

* what does it mean to be a human-centered designer? *

Human-centered design is a way of designing that pioritizes the needs, feelings, and fears of actual humans. It is designing with people, rather than for people. It is considering the individuals in every aspect of design and problem-solving based on the personal needs of those you are designing with.

* empathy *

Empathy is one of the most important elements in human-centered design. We must understand the individuals we are designing with and reflect on their experiences in order to achieve the most ideal outcome. We all come from different places, backgrounds, and beliefs, so it is essential to take each of our individual experiences into account when designing for humans.

* process & solution *

The process of human-centered design requires you to learn directly from the people you are designing with. It forces you, as the designer, to go out into the community and understand the feelings, desires, and experiences of others. This allows you to initially think broad, continuously learn and listen, and then zero in on specific issues as you start to understand individual human experiences.
